In October 2021, the Legislature passed and Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law Assembly Bill 101 – a historic bill which makes California the first state to require Ethnic Studies as a high school graduation requirement. The law requires that students in the class of 2030 take one semester of ethnic studies, and schools must offer these courses starting in the 2025-2026 school year.
Lake County Office of Ed along with a collaborative team developed an Ethnic Studies curriculum that is focused on Lake County. It’s overview was presented to the board of Trustees on January 15, 2025 and will return to the board for approval on February 12, 2025.
Links below are an overview on the curriculum developed. Should you wish to review the curriculum in its entirety you are welcome to visit the MUSD District Office between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. If you have questions regarding the content overview or the curriculum please email Jeff Crane at jeff.crane@middletownusd.org.
